Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.
Brainspotting works with the deep brain and the body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems within the body’s central nervous system. Brainspotting is accordingly a physiological tool/treatment which has profound psychological, emotional, and physical consequences.
What to expect in a Brainspotting Session
Your clinician will guide you in selecting an issue or problem to work on in the session. Together you will identify feelings (body sensations and emotions) associated with the identified issue, and rate how intense these feelings are. Your clinician will then work with you to determine where your 'Brain Spot' is. Once located, the client maintains an eye gaze in this specific spot.
This eye gazing induces a mild trance and allows us to access deeper areas of the brain that talk therapy alone cannot access. The majority of the session is spent in this trance state, where the wisdom of your body/brain takes over and you are able to process whatever needs to be processed.
